Description

(2014) Snowflake "Silver Medal of Honor" French Indochina, 1896 - Illustration No.88 Hand Drawn in Graphite on 96lb. Bristol Thick Board Sheet Stock - Pencils used: 6h, 5h, 4h, 2h, h, hb, b, 5b, 6b - Drawing time: 65 Hours to complete. This is the 10th Coin in my "Coin Series" and the first french Medal/Coin drawn. I selected this image because I was attracted to the glow of this coin and it appealed to me. The Bust Portrait was drawn first then the lettering was basically drawn twice, erased and shaded in very slowly not to explose too much direct features - this was done to give it the illusion of wear which made the coin look frosty. Tricky to accomplish, the work on the lettering took 28 hours to create
FI03 Rivit Design (3/C/1) - Silver - Indo-Chine - Design by Rivet. Five Medal of Honors (Médaille d'Honneur du Gouvernement Général pour Actes de Courage et de Dévouement) From April 21, 1891 to July 2, 1935 for acts of courage and devotion on the part of natives from Indochina; later a version locally dedicated for natives. Design: Round Breast badge, with suspension ribbon. 4 Classes were awarded, First Class Gold, Second Class Gold, First Class Silver and Second Class Silver. Obverse: Wearing a Liberty cap and wreath, the head of a woman symbolic of the Republic facing left, with the inscription around "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE"; Reverse: an ornate scroll inscribed "HONNEUR ET DISCIPLINE" with above branches of different leaves, and above that the inscription “MINISTÈRE DES COLONIES” or "INDO-CHINE"; The third design by Rivet is apparently rare.
